Empowering ASHA Workers in the Fight Against Tuberculosis: Orientation Session in Mayurbhanj District
The Department of Socio-Behavioural Research at ICMR-NIRT, Chennai, organized an orientation session on 27th May, 2025 for ASHA workers at Bangriposi Community Health Centre (CHC) in Mayurbhanj District, Odisha. The session aimed to strengthen the role of ASHA workers in the fight against tuberculosis (TB) by emphasizing the importance of psychosocial interventions in TB care.
The program, facilitated by Mr. S. Senthil, Senior Technical Officer, ICMR-NIRT, Chennai, highlighted the dual importance of medical treatment and psychosocial support in TB care. Dr. Laxmipriya Pradhan, Medical Officer; Mr. Asis Kumar Mohanty (STS); and Ms. Menjoti Naik (PTS-I) joined Mr. Senthil in delivering the session.
The session aimed to equipp ASHA workers and healthcare providers with the knowledge and skills necessary to offer holistic support to TB patients. It underscored the pivotal role of frontline health workers in achieving a TB-free Mayurbhanj and emphasized the importance of collaborative, community-based care in public health.
