TB Awareness and Lung Health Initiative for Young Minds


ICMR-NIRT, Chennai, in collaboration with Aruwe, a local NGO, organized a Lung Health and TB Awareness Program at the Department of Children Welfare and Special Services for Boys Home in Purusaiwakkam. The program aimed to educate children on lung health, TB prevention, early diagnosis, and healthy habits.

The session began with an introduction by Mr. A.N. Alen Joe, a Loyola College social work intern at ICMR-NIRT. Dr. P. Murugesan, Senior Technical Officer, led the primary session on TB symptoms, transmission, and prevention, using Villu Pattu, a traditional Tamil folk art, and visual aids to engage the audience. Mr. S. Senthil, Senior Technical Officer, discussed the harmful effects of tobacco and alcohol on lung health. The event featured interactive activities, including lung function tests, breathing exercises, and a TB awareness pledge. Mrs. A. Glory Gunaselan, Superintendent of the Home, and Aruwe's Mrs. Kalaivani and Mrs. Sofie supported the program, ensuring its smooth execution and actively engaging with the children. The program concluded on a positive note, leaving a lasting impact and promoting awareness about lung health and TB prevention.
