Tuberculosis Awareness Programme for Frontline Workers


ICMR-National Institute for Research in Tuberculosis (ICMR-NIRT), in collaboration with Poonamallee Municipality, Thiruvallur District, Tamil Nadu, and Madras Medical Mission College of Health Sciences, Chennai, organized a Tuberculosis Awareness Programme for frontline municipal sanitation workers on May 16, 2025. The event, held at 5:30 a.m. at the Poonamallee Municipality Office, aimed to raise awareness about lung health, tuberculosis prevention, and early diagnosis.

Mr. I. Santhosh, an internship trainee, welcomed the gathering. Mr. S. Senthil, Senior Technical Officer, DSBR, ICMR-NIRT, delivered an overview of the programme, highlighting the crucial role of sanitation workers in maintaining public hygiene and community health.

Mrs. Kanchana Sudhakar, Chairman of Poonamallee Municipality, emphasized the vital role of sanitation workers in upholding cleanliness and contributing to community health. The event featured a TB awareness performance of Villupattu by Dr. P. Murugesan, Senior Technical Officer, DSBR, ICMR-NIRT, and a fun balloon-blowing game by Mr. S. Elango, a Bachelor of Public Health internship trainee.

The programme concluded with a vote of thanks by Mr. Alan Joe, M.S.W. internship trainee, and participants took a pledge to eradicate tuberculosis, reaffirming their commitment to this global health cause.
