Research Methodology Workshop (MRHRU-Madurai)
The Model Rural Health Research Unit (MRHRU), Madurai, conducted a two-day Research Methodology Workshop from February 20th to 21st, 2025, at JC Residency, Madurai . The workshop was coordinated by Dr. S. Ramesh Kumar, Scientist F, ICMR-NIRT, and Nodal Officer of MRHRU-Madurai, along with his team. The Dean of Madurai Medical College inaugurated the workshop, and Dr. K. Senthil, Professor of Medicine and Nodal Officer, MRHRU-Madurai, from Madurai Medical College, graced the occasion. The event saw enthusiastic participation from 32 faculty members of Madurai Medical College across various departments.
Day 1 featured lectures on various aspects of research methodology, while Day 2 focused on group activities where participants developed study proposals based on concept notes they had submitted. These proposals will be considered for MRHRU-Madurai projects , subject to approval from LRAC.
Mentors and speakers of the workshop included Dr. K. Shantaraman, Additional Director of Medical Education and Research, Tamil Nadu, Dr. Vidhya Viswanathan, Deputy Director, Directorate of Public Health, Tamil Nadu, Dr. Palanivel, Professor of Community Medicine, JIPMER, & Vice-Chair, LRAC of MRHRU Madurai, Dr. Tanu Anand, Scientist E, Department of Health Research, Dr. Pushkala S, Professor of Immunology, TN Dr. MGR Medical University, Chennai and Dr. Richard Kirubakaran, Lead Epidemiologist, 3Analytics.pvt Ltd, Chennai. Additionally, Dr. Kumaragurubaran, District Health Officer, Madurai , along with scientists from ICMR-NIRT, provided guidance during the group discussions.
By the end of the second day, 10 concept proposals were developed, and each Principal Investigator presented their research question and objectives. Participants were encouraged to expand their concept notes into full-fledged proposals and submit them to MRHRU-Madurai within a month.
