Tuberculosis Awareness Program for Senior Citizen

ICMR-NIRT's Department of Social and Behavioral Research organized a Tuberculosis Awareness Program for senior citizens at Akshaya Trust Old Age Home, Chennai, on September 3, 2025. The event aimed to educate residents about TB symptoms, transmission, prevention, and treatment, highlighting nutrition and mental well-being.

Dr. P. Murugesan led an engaging awareness session using Villu Pattu, a traditional Tamil folk-art form, conveying key TB messages. Interactive activities included puppetry conversations on TB awareness and an ‘Emoji Emotions' session, coordinated by Ms. Jaishree G. along with interns from IGNOU, Madras School of Social Work, and Madras Christian College.

The program concluded with guided meditation for mental wellness and distribution of educational posters and plantain saplings symbolizing growth. ICMR-NIRT and Akshaya Trust reaffirmed their commitment to community health education, supporting India's goal to eliminate tuberculosis by 2025.
