Workshop on “Introduction to Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analysis"
The Technical Resource Centre (TRC) of ICMR–NIRT successfully conducted a one-day workshop on “Introduction to Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analysis” on 27 th June 2025 at ICMR-NIRT, Chennai. Organized under the aegis of the Department of Health Research, MoHFW (Govt. of India), this workshop aimed to build capacity in evidence synthesis, with a focus on systematic reviews and the application of meta-analytic methods.
The event witnessed enthusiastic participation from nearly 75 attendees, including researchers, postgraduates, and faculty, who actively engaged with the expert speakers throughout the sessions.
Dr. G. Narendran, Scientist F (Medical) and Head of the Department of Clinical Research, ICMR-NIRT, inaugurated the workshop and warmly welcomed the gathering. Prof. Ragunanthanan, Retired Professor of Medicine, Madras Medical College & Former Chief–Poison Control, Training and Research Centre, RGGGH, Chennai and present Director - ACS Advanced Medical Research Institute, Professor of Medicine-Sri Lalithambigai Medical College and Hospital, Dr.M.G.R. Educational and Research Institute, graced the occasion and addressed the participants.

Participants gained knowledge and first-hand experience on protocol designing, PICO framework, search and screening strategy, data extraction, bias assessment and statistical concepts essential for conducting high-quality reviews. The event concluded on a high note with vibrant Q&A sessions, positive feedback, and encouragement to continue evidence-based practices in healthcare research.
The workshop was a grand success, reflecting ICMR-NIRT's continued commitment to advancing public health research through scientific rigour and collaboration.
